Artist Adds ‘Star Wars’ To Boring Thrift Store Paintings

If you enjoyed Chris McMahon’s remakes of thrift store art, you’re going to like these as well. Dave of Arrowhead Vintage & Goods also salvages second-hand landscapes to transform the discarded paintings into surreal sci-fi scenes.

He alters old, forgotten artworks by adding pop culture elements to them. The artist also performs these makeovers with such dedication, the end results look like something the authors of the originals intended all along. From the classic Godzilla to the recent breakthrough Rick and Morty, Dave’s collection has something to offer to most fantasy fans out there.

Star Wars, however, is the franchise he enjoys working with the most.

Arrowhead Vintage & Goods specializes in everything from vinyl and home decor to clothing and jewelry, so these paintings shouldn’t come as a complete surprise to people who visit the shop in Canton, Ohio. If they could enter it.

“I have always done art for fun, just novelty weirdo stuff but when covid hit, I had to close my vintage store,” Dave told Bored Panda. “My wife and I started doing our website full time trying to keep afloat. She made masks and I started painting. Both really kept us busy and we were really glad to have the work.”

Dave started the series with an old landscape he had already had; the artist himself thought it was beautiful but couldn’t sell the piece even for $5. “After a couple of years, I decided if I was going to throw it out, I could try and do something interesting with it. I think I added a fallen AT-ST, half in a lake, and Ewoks fishing off of it.”

The artist said he spends a lot of time analyzing and learning to “match” the painting’s style before he actually begins working on it.

Before the pandemic, Dave used to get old landscapes at thrift stores and garage sales but acquiring these things isn’t a problem now as well — lately, people have been cleaning out their houses and bringing them to him directly. “It’s great,” Dave said. “Usually, I only spend $5 or $10 each, not much.”

These Dogs Like To Look At Their Neighborhood Through A Hole In A Fence, So Their Owners Put Up Posters To Make Their Neighbors Laugh

There are families all over the world that are stuck together during this quarantine. They are coming up with all kinds of ideas to keep busy so they won’t rip each other’s heads off. Brian Stanley came up with a fun project for him, his kids, dogs, and surprisingly, even his whole neighborhood.

His dogs’ names are Ripley and Burger King and they have a fun hobby of staring at their neighbors through a hole in their fence. So Brian decided to create pop culture cardboard posters around the cutout so that when his dogs poked their heads through the fence, the images would come to life and brighten up the neighborhood.

Dogs Burger and Ripley just love looking through this fence hole and spying on the neighborhood

Their owners decided to not miss the opportunity to make people smile and put up this custom-made, Jaws-themed poster around it

“The whole thing started last August when Burger was just a few months old and started digging under the fence so that he could look at people going by. To solve this, I cut a hole in the fence to act as a window for him. He immediately started using the window and stopped digging.”

“Fast forward to this March and the COVID shutdown. I found myself out of work and my son home from school. The two of us noticed an increase in foot and bike traffic on the street side of the fence. I came up with the idea to paint a dog-themed painting to frame the window, which would be brought to life when Burger stuck his head through the fence.”

We asked the owners how often their dogs look through the fence: “We have 2 dogs and both are sweethearts. Ripley, however, is more tentative. She is somewhat more of a barker towards anyone approaching the fence. She loves the attention but is more hesitant than Burger to embrace it. Burger, on the other hand, loves attention. The fence window I cut is the first place he goes when I let him outside. I’ve seen him just stand there with his head through the hole watching the world go by.”

Seeing how many smiles this brought to their neighbors during the pandemic, they started making more posters and changing them up! This one is inspired by Pacman

“Burger is the star of the show. The hole I cut in the fence is the first place he goes when I let him outside. Even if he and Ripley are running around in the yard, he keeps an ear out for anyone that goes by and will run over to the hole to look out at them.”

Here is some more information about the adorable pup duo: “Both are amazing dogs. Ripley is shyer while Burger is more outgoing. Burger is the classic knuckleheaded dog. He’s always happy, always smiling, and willing to please and make people happy.”

“My son helped match colors, paint, and hang ‘The Bark’ which was our version of the famous ‘The Scream’ painting. In the beginning, we just thought it would brighten the day in the neighborhood and hopefully bring a few smiles to people’s faces. There was an immediate positive response to it. My son and I have no plans to stop putting up new paintings and have enough ideas to keep doing this for years,” Brian told Bored Panda.

The more they did, the more positive feedback they got. This is called The Bark, a much cuter reimagination of The Scream

“People in the neighborhood will stop and take pictures at the fence with the dogs. They will bring treats and give love to Burger who is usually the one with his head sticking through the hole. Both my wife and I have been stopped by walkers, runners, bikers, and people in their cars who they tell us how much they love what we are doing,” said Brian when asked what their favorite reactions from the neighbors were.

We asked Brian which poster was his favorite: “I love the Pacman piece we did and I also love ‘The Dog with the Bone Earring’ but for different reasons. Pacman because it’s not a 2d piece. We cut, painted and attached individual pieces to it so that it had a more 3d look to it. “Bone Earring” because of how challenging it was to duplicate the original piece of artwork so people would recognize it”

Brian shared how many other posters is he planning to do with his family: “When the Uncle Sam piece was up on the fence I sat down and brainstormed ideas. Right now, we have enough ideas to keep this going until the spring of 2024. As we come up with more ideas, it extends how long we can keep this up. Basically, it will continue until my imagination runs out of ideas.”

“The quarantine has taken a heavy toll on our family. It was a struggle with me out of work. All of us have had to adjust to this new reality we find ourselves in. Like the rest of the world, we’ve had to make sacrifices. We will be stronger on the other side,” shared Ripleys and Burgers owner when asked how has quarantine affected him and his family.

“I hope that if our little art project gets more of an audience we can continue to make and post new pieces on our fence and also to feature adoptable animals on our social media pages like Instagram.”

This Artist Gave 30 Pop Culture Characters Sinister Makeovers

Marcelo Ventura is a 36-year-old “frustrated artist” from Brazil who creates sinister-looking makeovers and mashups of our favorite pop culture icons.

In an interview with Bored Panda, the artist said that he is nostalgic for the 80s and 90s so he tries to resurrect characters from that era in a comic book style. Marcelo revealed that some of the artists that inspire him are J. Scott Campbell, Todd McFarlane and Greg Capullo.

The artist says that in his works, he likes to connect and associate different universes. “I usually choose a character and try to insert it into a certain context, whether it is from a movie, series, or a book,” says Marcelo. “For example, mashing up Buzz Lightyear with Alien, Scooby & Shaggy with Into The Wild, Mario Bros with The Walking Dead, and so on.”

You probably noticed that Marcelo introduces himself as the “frustrated artist”. When asked why, the artist responded that that’s because like many artists, he would love to live entirely on his own art but the lack of opportunities and self-esteem is holding him back.

#6 Rick & Morty, Beavis And Butthead, South Park, & Others

The artist reveals that he has many draft and ideas he plans to materialize soon. “It’s things like Hellboy, ThunderCats, and, most definitely, Rick and Morty, who are currently the two characters I like to draw the most.”

Woman Wears Bizarre Costumes While Walking Her Dog During The Quarantine And He Looks Embarrassed (8 Pics)

Dancer Clare Meardon from West Cornwall in the UK has been dressing up in different jaw-dropping costumes to walk her dog Hendrix. She’s been doing this since the start of April after her friend dared her to mix it up and step outside in unusual clothes. Now, Clare’s making all of us smile with video clips filmed by her husband Aidan.

Some of the costumes that the 40-year-old dancer has tried out include dressing up as a ballerina, a masked superhero with a cape, and even a unicorn. Honestly, we can’t wait to see what she’ll come up with next! Clare told Bored Panda that she didn’t expect her costumes to be so popular. “It started off as just a way of making my friends laugh as some were having a tough time. It was all just a silly bit of fun!” Scroll down for the rest of our interview with the dancer.

Clare isn’t the only Brit to dress up in fancy costumes when going outside. Check out Bored Panda’s previous posts about a postman, as well as one former Royal Marinewho did the same to cheer up their neighbors.

Her dog posted what he thinks about her costumes

We were interested to find out what costumes Clare has planned for this week. “A ‘walker’ never gives away her secrets!” she joked before adding that she’s not sure yet. “I have a ‘normal walk’ with my husband in the morning and we decide on a theme and I go from there!”

Clare also added that the walks she does in costumes happen right outside their house, so it’s fully in line with government guidelines.

The dancer also had some great advice about keeping physically and mentally fit during lockdown.

“Keep it light. Don’t take life too seriously. Get up and do it, you’ll feel better if you do something physical or productive as soon as you get up. Even 10 minutes of light exercise first thing will boost your mood and endorphins and make you have a better day.”

She added: “We are all responsible for our own health and well-being, we are just here to give you a helping hand along the way. We are posting short clips and doing live workouts on our Facebook and Instagram, whether you want a 1-minute plank or a full hour of Pilates, dance, stretching or fitness, we have it all. You deserve to feel amazing. All our workouts and videos are being done for free. We just want to share some fun and fitness for all during this difficult time.”

“Because I run a dance school, I have a lot of costumes which I make myself,” Clare told Caters News. “We were meant to be having a show in July, so I’d taken them all home to fix ahead of that. I was mending the Eve costume, and because it’s a stretch fabric it is actually much easier to work with while you are wearing it, so I put it on.”

One of the dancer’s dog walks involved dressing up as a ballerina

She said that was the moment that she realized that this could be a great funny photo opportunity. When she sent the photo to her friends, one of them dared her to go for a walk dressed like that.

“When she said that, how could I not? After I posted the first clip online, people said watching it was the highlight of their day and I realized just how much of a bad time a lot of people must be having at the moment and how everyone needed something to laugh about.”

So she decided to keep things going. “So the next day, I dressed as a ballerina and walked along the pavement in my pointed shoes. The hype just built and built from there to post a new video each day!”

Here’s Clare dressed up as a unicorn

Clare, who runs the Savvy Studios in Hayle, revealed that she wants to make people laugh and smile while they’re all stuck at home because of the lockdown. “Laughter is the most important medicine for everyone, now more than ever. For me, mental health is as important as physical health. You can have a fantastically fit body, but if your head is full of negativity, you aren’t healthy.”

And here’s Clare as a superhero with her trust doggo sidekick

The dancer believes that each of the characters that she dresses up as represents a part of her personality or how she’s feeling on that particular day. “The superhero costume came from a desire to ‘be fierce’ and remind women they can be whoever they want to be—they can be sexy and sassy and funny and ridiculous all at once.”

Here’s how some people reacted when they saw Clare’s photos

This Mom Of Three From Japan Has Eggstraordinary Skills To Make Cute Fried Egg Meals

When it comes to food, all parents know how picky children can get. Taste is not the only important thing to the little ones; the visual appearance of the food matters too. That’s why some parents are encouraged to master the art of cooking to satisfy their little “food critics.” One of those parents is a mom of three little girls from Tokyo, Japan. This woman creates both adorable and delicious-looking meals that even adults crave.

The woman is known as Etoni Mama. She is raising three girls—ages 11, 7, and 9—who are lucky enough to eat colorful, cartoon character-inspired meals almost every day. The talented mother who has no prior training in making food is definitely a master of kyaraben, also known as character bento. Kyaraben is a Japanese lunchbox food style that features numerous meals decorated to look like people and various pop culture characters, including plants and animals. While making character bento is not easy, Etoni does it so well that you can’t help but love her meals.

After a coworker encouraged Etoni Mama to share her intricate and fun meals on Instagram, the woman started her sharing her dishes and in a couple of years, she gathered a solid fan base of over 103k followers. But her success didn’t end there. The woman also published a cookbook featuring her stunning kitchen creations to help other parents serve their children food that is so cute that they simply can’t resist eating it.

34 Illustrations Of Pop Culture Characters By EFIX Blend Into Walls And Sidewalks

When it comes to street art, there are usually two different opinions. One says that we can hardly call it ‘art’ and that it’s destroying the architecture in cities, while the other considers it art that not only colors the grayness of the concrete walls, but also gives more soul to old buildings. However, it is hard to argue about the works of one artist who is best known by the name EFIX since they actually help to ‘restore’ the city. Scroll down for Bored Panda’s interview with the artist!

30-year-old Barcelona-based artist EFIX is not only a street artist, but also a graphic designer and musician. He uses his art to ‘fix’ the ugly cityscape, such as cracks in concrete walls, broken pipes, etc. His tools are his humorous cartoons and illustrations of pop culture characters who perfectly blend into walls and sidewalks, interacting with their surroundings in a completely natural way and making streets look more alive. “I work a lot with Disney and Simpsons characters in general because they have already lived all the lives that any human being can have, so usually, when I see a shape that I like in the street, I take a picture of it and then I look at the photo every day to find an idea. Once I have the idea… I try to move it to the world of cartoons so that it touches my viewer even more easily,” says the artist.

His career as a street artist started five years ago when he began to notice the unpleasant features of streets and buildings in Barcelona. That’s actually where his motivation and inspiration come from! EFIX decided to use his artwork to cover these unpleasant features and make his city even more beautiful. “What I like the most about street art is, first of all, the emotions it causes in people in general when I do my street art. I have a city cleaner costume, I put it on and then I sit in the street and watch the passers-by marvel at it, especially the children. It’s such a pleasant feeling to see a smile born on a face. And more personally, I like the feeling of giving something without expecting anything in return. Street art has taught me this value and it’s really rewarding.”

“My street art, in my eyes, wants to be positive street art. That’s why I take care never to damage the supports around me. I don’t want to disturb anything, so I prefer to make ephemeral art—I find that there is a real poetic sense in that. This is why I use materials that do not stay over time, i.e. paper supports. And I use water and flour-based glues to create a texture that dissolves easily in the rain, or if the owner does not endorse my art. Just before creating the work, I take a photo of the wall and come with a meter to take its measurements. Once I have the proportions of the visuals, I go home and I draw it in the right dimensions. At one time, I tried to create my own colors with flower pigments, but I had a little trouble killing the flowers for my personal pleasure. And then, at nightfall, I come to paint my street art so that in the morning, it can work its magic on passers-by,” the artist explains his creative process.

The artist draws popular and easily recognizable pop culture characters that come from cartoons and that most of us associate with our childhood. “I like to use Disney characters because they have a very strong relationship with childhood and touching the viewer at the root is even more beautiful in my eyes,” explains the artist. From The Simpsons, Tom & Jerry, to the Lion King and Mowgli and many more, it surely gives us that feeling of nostalgia and perfectly decorates the streets of Barcelona.

“I started street art because I come from a big art school where you have the designers who end up in Pixar’s studios, for example. But I preferred to be interested in music, personally. Since leaving this school, I’ve had a very strong relationship with the street, where my job at the start was to record street artists and to mix my influences with theirs. I was very quickly influenced by the street because during the day, I recorded them with my microphones and at night, I composed. It leaves you with this feeling that the world belongs to you and you can then rediscover the world as you see it,” says EFIX. “I just want to say that no matter who we are, we have to believe in ourselves because nobody will do it for us. And if you have some crazy ideas, follow your ideas to the end. The world needs creativity, that’s what feeds it!”

Fantastic Art That MacBook Owners Created For Their Machines

Apple computers may suck at gaming , but they certainly enjoy love of the creative community. Designers, musicians, writers and many other professionals love them and claim they are a perfect piece of technology.

The news of Apple declaring its last 17-inch MacBook Pro circa 2010 may “obsolete”upset many devotees of this particular model and even left them indignant. In fact, they claim that for creative folks this bigger MacBook proved to be everything they needed.

If you are one of these fans, fear not. This does not mean that you have to trash your lovely machines and replace them with something you like less. In my experience, a little upgrade makes this beast into something you will be able to use for years to come. In fact, you are in luck, for this particular Mac, unlike many others, is upgradable. It means you can boost its performance with an SSD, add sufficient amount of RAM and you are good to go! With all that and maybe some cleaning out your Mac will be as fast and furious as the first day you brought it home.

If you want to spruce it up even more, you may want to look at the examples of makeover the owners of MacBooks designed earlier. They never stop being creative, do they? They try to push the boundaries of perfection embellishing their laptops with unique designs.

They play with glowing logo, creating funny and beautiful images around it to express their unique self and to make sure that no one will have another laptop like theirs. Sometimes they make redesign logo into celestial body, an integrate part of a complex picture and sometimes they just highlight the “fruity” essence of it and the significant place apples take in legends, art, history of mankind, and pop-culture.

Wood, plastic, vinyl decals and even acrylic paints – everything is good to transform glossy barren grey desert into an artistic statement.

Historic references, Disney and Pixar animation, famous paintings, comic book heroes, beloved sci-fi and fantasy characters and original artwork that plays amazingly well with the glowing central element.

Here are examples of amazing art to inspire your fantastic MacBook makeover!
