Photographer Waits Six Days To Take This Perfectly Lined Up Photo Of A Leopard With A “Shadow”

few days ago, we featured a handful of incredible photos of a black panther taken by Indian wildlife photographer Shaaz Jung. And if you love big cats, today we have another treat for you.

Indian wildlife photographer Mithun H recently shared a photo of a leopard named Cleopatra with a shadow cast behind her. Only there’s a little catch – the “shadow” behind her is actually a black panther named Saaya. Mithun’s photo received over 63k likes in just a few days and for a good reason – the photograph is absolutely breathtaking.

The photo is titled The Eternal Couple and it went viral almost instantly.

In a recent interview with Bored Panda, the photographer said that capturing this shot was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and that he still relives the moment every time he closes his eyes.

Mithun says that a lot of waiting and patience went into capturing the photo. “I had waited 6 days for this in the same spot since I could hear the panther and Cleopatra mating about 100 meters away in the thick undergrowth, but could not see them due to limited visibility. They had made a large kill and would not move until it was over,” explained the photographer. “That is where the knowledge and years of experience of following and tracking the panther came in handy. I just had to wait at one of his favorite paths, since that was the place he would get her, since that was the edge of his territory, and this he did after 6 days. It was a fruitful wait, though. I could wait for 6 years for a moment like this.”

One of the things Mithun loves the most about wildlife photography is the element of surprise. He said that you never know what you’ll encounter at the next bend. “The woods are mysterious, and to unlock that is my passion,” revealed the photographer. “You could be waiting for days and months and years for that perfect shot. But when it happens, those few seconds are magical, and to live for after all that time. That is the beauty of wildlife photography.”

Mithun has been photographing wildlife since 2009

The photographer was born and brought up in the jungles of South India and says that he has always had a passion for wildlife and big cats. To Mithun, photography was a means to immortalize the moments he saw in the wild. He picked up his first camera back in 2009 and managed to capture a photo of a huge male tiger swimming through a river. “That was the moment I decided my way forward in life,” said the photographer.

“Although I love every form of wildlife and love my birds as well, big cats were always a fascination from the beginning,” said Mithun. “Leopards, in particular, were my first love. The agility, the grace of this feline on the trees just fascinated me to no end.”

Mithun says he would spend hours watching the cats lazing on a tree with their cubs. “[I] have named and followed their individual journey in Kabini for the last 12 years now,” said the photographer. “It all started with one of my favorite Leopards whom I called ‘Monk’ (a big male) and ‘Moon’ (the female), and their generation still going strong now.”

Mithun says that even though wildlife photography can be dangerous, knowing the behavior and limits of animals means you have won half the battle. “These beautiful creatures are generally more scared and shy than we think,” says the photographer. “Give them space and let them get comfortable with you and you realize how close and personal you can get with their world. The secret is patience and respect.”

Through his work, Mithun wants to support the conservation of leopards as they’re the most neglected big cats in the world. “People need to realize the beauty and grace of this amazing feline and their very important role in the ecosystem,” added the photographer.

19 Stunning Photos Of A Rare Black Panther Roaming In The Jungles Of India

Wildlife filmmaker and photographer Shaaz Jung has grown up in awe of the mighty jungle and has been fascinated by black panthers ever since the first time he saw one.

This passion became an obsession and it had become Jung’s ultimate goal to shed more light on these masters of darkness.

While chasing his dream, Jung spent the last couple of years exploring the Kabini Forest in Karnataka, India, and came back with some of the most beautiful shots of the most majestic animal we have ever seen.

“I spent two and a half years in the Kabini Forest, between December 2017 and January 2020, on a filming permit,” Jung told Bored Panda. “This filming permit allowed [me and the team] to make a documentary on the black panther for National Geographic.”

He was the Director of Photography and said every day was like a journey into the unknown. The attempt to unravel the secrets of the enigmatic black panther has been one of the most challenging projects Jung has ever worked on.

“This black panther is a leopard with an abundance of melanin. Unlike other cats in the Kabini Forest, there is only one black panther,” Jung explained. “This of course makes him far more difficult to photograph. However, since 2015… photographers have been fortunate enough to see him and take pictures. We are, however, the first to make a dedicated movie on him.”

This demanding project has taught everyone who was working on it the art of patience. “It’s been an incredible journey,” Jung said.

“I would like to thank the Karnataka Forest Department for protecting these forests. Their hard work enables us to catch glimpses of these beautiful animals that are thriving in our Indian forests.”

If you think about it, it’s like Jung’s whole life had been leading up to this job.

Raised in South India, he grew up in awe of the mighty jungle and was fortunate enough to have some of the country’s best national parks in the area. “The jungle is a labyrinth riddled with secrets that are waiting to be uncovered. Every day in the forest was like a puzzle and I had to put the pieces of this puzzle together in order to successfully unlock its secrets.”

When he did, Jung was gifted with some of the most breathtaking moments that he could capture with a camera.

“The camera allowed me to take photographs, immortalizing these moments, relishing life, and inspiring the world,” he said. “Wildlife is unpredictable and I love the challenge of tracking your subject before you can photograph it. It feels far more rewarding.”

All the hard work Jung has put into capturing wildlife really paid off. Not only did he travel some of the most beautiful places on Earth and meet gorgeous creatures, but he also became the ambassador for Nikon India and Samsung. In his spare time, Jung also runs Safari Lodges in South India and East Africa where he guides private safaris for wildlife enthusiasts.

This Artist Draws Male Superheroes In A Classic Pin-Up Style (10 Pics)

Most of you have probably seen posters of pin-up girls that were incredibly in the mid-20th century before. Well, Portland-based artist David Talaski-Brown decided to do a different take on classic pin-up style posters by recreating a handful of superheroes in the same style.

In an interview with Bored Panda, David said he started working on his superhero series around 2 years ago. “I was going to table at my first convention and I felt like I had nothing to sell that people would want to buy,” said the artist. “I had an idea of illustrating popular male superheroes in the pinup classic style akin to Elvgren and Vargas.”

#2 Iron Man

David says that what makes pin-up appealing for him is that it walks the line between erotica and comedy. “It’s sexy enough to make you blush and ridiculous enough to not take it seriously. Basically, erotica you can hang on your walls and still have mom over,” jokes the artist.

#4 Loki

The artist saw the project as a great opportunity to create art for nerds that are attracted to men. He said that there’s always loads of art depicting scantily clad women at comic conventions so he figured he’d give MCU’s “hottest hunks” the same treatment.

#6 Bucky Barnes

He started by recreating some of the more popular superheroes like Thor and Captain America, and soon started creating ones people requested, like Loki and Bucky Barnes. “I most recently stepped out of the MCU and took on Momoa’s Aquaman because how couldn’t I? I mean, look at him,” said the artist. He also added that he has ideas for more Marvel and DC universe superheroes in the future.
