Toronto Guide by Allen Chan of DesignAgency

With a list of clients that includes Momofuku, Fairmont Hotels and Resorts, and Ritz Carlton, Allen Chanhas figured out how to draw customers in. The co-founder of DesignAgency, the Toronto native works with fellow partners Matthew Davis and Anwar Mekhayech to create thoughtful experiences that span interiors, architecture, and branding. (The firm celebrates 20 years in business in 2018.) Chan took a break from designing the next big hotspot to share his recommendations in the Canadian city.

1. The Hearn Generating Station

A unique part of Toronto’s industrial past, this amazingly decrepit power plant is something one must see to appreciate its scale.

2. Bar Raval

Truly exceptional in the F&B landscape in Toronto. Nicely done work by Partisans.

3. Allan Gardens

A real gem and great example of late 19th-century greenhouse architecture with an expansive collection of flora—the perfect place to visit during the winter.

4. John H. Daniels Faculty of Architecture, Landscape, and Design

An amazing new school of architecture for University of Toronto by NADAAA Architects.

5. The Rooftop at The Broadview Hotel

Arguably one of the best views of Toronto and a must-see during the summer.

6. Pinkerton Snack Bar

One of my favorite local spots. Laid-back vibe, great Asian fusion cuisine, and cool staff.

7. The Ceílí Cottage

Pretty darn authentic Irish pub, complete with burning peat moss and a yurt!  Definitely something to check out if you’re a hardcore Irish pubber.
