If you keep up with the Kardashians—and it’s hard not to—you know that the family takes a particular interest in home design. Kris Jenner loves over-the-top holiday decorations, Kourtney’s home contains museum-quality pieces, and Kanye West has developed quite the friendship with Axel Vervoordt. In our recent interview with Kim Kardashian, who is an early adopter and adviser for ScreenShop, an app that creates a shoppable catalogue from any inspirational image, she revealed that her husband is not just a fan of the Belgian designer, but also a collaborator. “My husband makes all of his own furniture in his office,” she says.“My office is all Vincent Van Duysen, but Kanye is so good at it, he loves to draw out pieces. Axel made a couch in our house called the ‘Kanye couch’ because Kanye designed it with him.”
This shouldn’t come as any surprise to those who have paid attention to West’s obsession with art and design. He once shared a sketch on social media of an all-marble bed he designed and said that the favorite piece he and Kardashian own is Jean Royère’s iconic Polar Bear sofa. The rapper was even nominated last year for a prestigious London Design Museum Beazley award. Though West has expressed an interest in working with IKEA in the past—he toured their Swedish headquarters in 2016 but nothing ever came from the pitch—it seems more fitting that his furniture collaboration would involve Vervoordt; the designer custom-created everything in their new Hidden Hills home, including unique plaster walls and linen-covered furniture. Perhaps IKEA would be interested now that West has an actual prototype to share.
