2016 marks 400 years since the death of William Shakespeare, widely regarded as one of the greatest writers in the English language. To celebrate this anniversary, citizenM hotels created a special installation in the atrium of its Bankside hotel. The temporary artwork was part of an annual series of secret garden installations for the Festival and was realised in close collaboration with the Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre, located close by in Bankside.

Inspired by a quote from Much Ado About Nothing, “Speak Low if You Speak Love”, the creative team at the Globe has created tumbling cascades of letters, created out of white and mirrored acrylic. Hanging over the space will be larger individual letters, suspended from wires that will spell out the quote. Other sayings from Shakespeare that relate to the idea of secrets and deception, a major theme of the play, will be hung from the trees in the courtyard, reflecting back the colours of the hotel.
